Clinical Research Success November 2021

The November issue of our flagship journal Anesthesiology (https://pubs.asahq.org/anesthesiology/issue/135/5)  has not one, but three (!) original research articles from our department. I cannot recall an instance when one department has had such a large number of articles in one single edition.

The first article “December Is Coming: A Time Trend Analysis of Monthly Variation in Adult Elective Anesthesia Caseload across Florida and Texas Locations of a Large Multistate Practice” was authored by Anastasia Pozdnyakova Piersa (Pritzker student), Avery Tung, Richard Dutton, Sajid Shahul, and David Glick.

The second article “Evaluation of Appropriate Use of Preoperative Echocardiography before Major Abdominal Surgery: A Retrospective Cohort Study “  was authored by Allyson Tank, Robert Hughey, Parker Ward, and Daniel Rubin.

The third article “Intrathecal Morphine for Analgesia in Minimally Invasive Cardiac Surgery: A Randomized, Placebo-controlled, Double-blinded Clinical Trial” was authored by Richa Dhawan; Danisa Daubenspeck; Kristen Wroblewski; John-Henry Harrison; Mackenzie McCrorey; Husam H. Balkhy, and Mark Chaney

I am also excited to announce that one of our own CRNAs, Saad Iqbal, has recently published an original study in the October edition of the AANA Journal “Cultural Competence of Student Registered Nurse Anesthetists in Illinois” (https://pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/34586991/).
